TikTok Is The Future For All.

Yes, even if your brand doesn’t target Gen Z.

TikTok is really the future & the future is here now. In this blog, we’re breaking down the stats, comparing influencers growth on both IG and TikTok, as well as giving you real life examples of businesses who do not target Gen Z and are killing it on the app! Keep reading for more…

THE STATS

Before we get into all the theoretical stuff, let me lay out some facts for you.

  • TikTok has over 30 million active users every day

  • In 1 minute, 167 million TikTok videos are watched.

  • It’s the 2nd most downloaded app, globally.

  • It’s available in over 150 countries and in 75 different languages.

  • It’s most popular amongst women who belong to Gen Z

STOP THINKING LOGICALLY

We’re always told “be present wherever your target audience are present”, OR “hang out where your customers hang out”. Now, this is true to an extent, and most business owners, founders or CEO’s, will look at that last fact and think “my customers/ audience/ clients aren’t there, so I won’t bother being there either”. That’s logical - but logical isn’t always the right way to think when it comes to marketing & what drives revenue.

DO RETIREMENT HOMES TARGET GEN Z?

Let’s take the Retirement Home TikTok account as an example (who are killing it on TikTok BTW). They aren’t directly targeting Gen Z, but they’re boosting their overall brand awareness, especially amongst Gen Z. So now what this does is it gets them “known”. It gets people talking about them. Whenever someone mentions the word “retirement home” - people on TikTok will think of that *one funny TikTok retirement home*. Globally, it gets them talked about, and I mean, what business doesn’t want that? There are so many more opportunities that come with being talked about more. But anyways, back to the point, being, their ideal customer isn’t necessarily an active user on the app, but people on TikTok might know someone who knows someone who’s looking for a retirement home, and they might refer them to the one they know about from TikTok! Word of mouth & referrals are business catalysts and huge revenue bringers - but as businesses reading this, you already know this.

BUILDING BRAND AWARENESS

TikTok is all about building brand awareness & becoming known. It’s a community building app. What makes it ideal for community building is that it reaches a mass amount of people, which, as we all know the alternative main platform, Instagram, isn’t the best at reach. The people that you reach on TikTok are much more likely to convert to a follower, versus Instagram. Influencers who have been on Instagram for 5-10 years, building their platform, now have the same amount of followers as influencers who have been on TikTok for 3-6 months. Take a look at Alix Earle - the all American girl who grew over 2 million followers in a month, while other influencers, such as Lydia Millen for example, UK influencer who has 1.2 million followers and has been on Instagram for 7 years!

SHIFT OF MENTALITY

As we continue advancing in the tech & digital space, the ability for businesses to survive during these changes determines how successful they are. Even though we constantly talk about TikTok NOW, if things start to change in the social media world and TikTok is “out”, then we would adjust accordingly. As leaders, it’s important to not only roughly plan the next 5-10 years in business, but to look beyond that. Start thinking about the longevity of your brand and think BEYOND what’s right for you “now”.

THE YOUTH IS THE FUTURE

Why do this, you might ask? The truth is, that the youth is the future, meaning, Gen Z is the future. Becoming known amongst Gen Z will not only increase your sales NOW, but it will also keep you in business in the LONG run. A diner in Las Vegas who barely had any customers is now almost always full & sold out because of TikTok reviews. There are countless other examples of brand’s totally getting sold out, without paying ANY money towards ads on TikTok.
