5 Content Concepts that Boost Engagement on IG and TikTok

The more social media evolves, the smarter consumers get and the harder it feels for creators to create content that captures their attention. The hooks that used to work before, like “I can’t believe no one is talking about this” - just don’t do it anymore. Consumers are not as easily impressed anymore. To help you break through the noise, we've compiled five engaging content ideas that have a track record of performing well.

Classic Photo Dumps

Photo dumps are a way to allow your audience into your behind-the-scenes life, which in turn, increases trust. The key with photo dumps is to share the good and the ugly, which allows for the relatability factor to shine through. Depending on your industry and brand, you can throw in some testimonials and wins in there too!

Wording it as a “glimpse into my camera roll” like Mimi did, is such a great way to make your audience feel like you are sharing your life with them!

On TikTok, you can add text to your photo dumps, which allows you to share a story and context, like Gabriel did.

Multitasking

If you create talking-style videos, distract your audience with a task as you talk. It’s no secret that people’s attention spans are getting shorter, so doing something like your makeup, skincare, packing your bag, baking a cake, etc. is a great way to not only engage viewers but make them feel like they’re on FaceTime with a friend. This type of video also falls under the umbrella of your classic “GRWM” (get ready with me) videos which helped Alix Earle rise to fame!

Nara Smith has branded herself as the woman who can make ANYTHING from scratch. She even made gum! Her videos are mesmerising, showing that a tutorial with a voiceover is always a great, engaging and 100% original content idea.

Aimme Smale, Founder of Odd Muse, does a great job at engaging her audience with a classic makeup, skincare or outfit GRWM video. This allows the audience to focus on the task while she talks about her brand, which in turn, builds her personal brand.

Interviews

A question-answer-style video with your team, staff, the Founder or even strangers (in street-style interviews) is a great way to engage users. You can do it one of two ways, being a) for pure fun and entertainment, or b) sharing knowledge and inserting your authority about a subject in a question-answer format.

This interview with Trinny Woodall allows her to share her knowledge and insert her authority in a question answer style video. This simultaneously allows her to address any common questions her audience might have.

Street Interviews like this one by Aime are always so much fun to watch. People crave human connection and interviews like this allows people to witness that from the other side of their screens.

Relatable Content

This content performs well across the board. You can combine short-form videos featuring relatable quotes, experiences, or messages with trending and relevant sounds on Instagram and TikTok. This concept both taps into current trends and allows you to resonate with your audience, increasing the likelihood of shares, likes, and comments.

Weidly unique experience, as shared in this video by Adel, always allow the masses to relate. It’s a shared experience that the creator and viewers can connect to.

Another funny experience, shared by Natania, we are all able to relate to with the Pilates craze going on.

Skits

Skits are a great way to both share humour, as well as share your knowledge and expertise in a way where consumers feel like they are observing a situation playout, rather than being talked at.

Skits like Claire’s are genius. They allow her to share her knowledge and expertise, while also sharing a solution to those who relate to unique situations as she plays out in her content!

Alternatively, you have sktis like this, that are lighthearted, funny and something everyone is able to be intrigued by.
