The Secret Behind Seasonal Content

We’ve all seen brands post content that revolves around seasons, holidays and special events. But have you ever wondered why so much effort is invested in creating seasonal content? There’s a strategic purpose behind it that goes beyond joining in on “festivities”. In this blog, we’re breaking down the reason why your social media strategy needs seasonal content.

What Is Seasonal Content?

Seasonal content refers to any media that revolves around specific seasons, holidays and special events throughout the year. Seasonal content can be categorized into two primary types:

  • Time-based: this type is centred around the different seasons of the year, such as summer.

  • Event-based: this type focuses on holidays, like Christmas, Halloween and Valentine’s Day, such as Employees Day and more.

Both types are essential to incorporate as it allows you to stay relevant all year ‘round, by varying your content from season to season.

TALA does a fantastic job at this, with both time and event-based seasons.

Why Does It Work?

2 words: Visual storytelling. Visuals are processed faster and more efficiently than words by the human brain. There’s a reason why there’s a saying that goes “A picture is worth a thousand words” — because it’s our human psychology! Visuals can communicate ideas, feelings and experiences in a way that copy is not able to, evoking emotions and therefore, a more profound connection with your audience. This, in turn, boosts visibility, engagement and drives sales — all because of visual storytelling. Now that you know how powerful it is, here’s how you can do the same.

1) Stay On Top Of Dates!

It’s easy to let dates slip by as the year goes by (we can’t believe we’re almost 6 months into 2024!), so make sure you are planning your seasonal content 6 months to a year in advance. Yes - that long! This allows you to move other regular content around and set dates in stone for shoots, scouting locations, and more, while also allowing for the planning of any promotional offers relevant to the time or event-based season, which we encourage!

2) Be Selective

Choose the event-based days that resonate with your brand! You don’t need to participate in every single one of them if they aren’t relevant to your brand. For example, “Tax Day”, won’t be relevant for every brand, unless you’re an accounting business. In 2023, the IRS posted a Mean Girls-inspired reminder, which is a great use of an event-based form of content.

3) Plan Every Detail

There’s a lot of planning that goes into shoots, especially seasonal shoots, as they are totally different from your regular brand content, therefore warranting more creativity, not to mention the time it takes to scout locations, props, models and more. We encourage you to plan out the details 3-6 months in advance, following this structure:

  • After coming up with your concept and goal for the shoot, map out your creative direction, the best way to do so is to capture the overall vibe with a mood board, which includes images in different “categories” that relate to different shots you would like to take, i.e. product shots, vs. close-up shots etc.

  • After mapping out your creative direction, translate this into a clear shot list. We like to do this on Notion, where we map out the exact shots that need to be taken, which we tick off while on the shoot to keep us organised.

  • Next, figure out how much time each shot will take and make it relevant to the location. We separate each shot based on the location so that we can complete all shots in one location before moving on to the next. This is the most time-efficient way to do things.

  • After figuring out how much time the entire shoot will take, book your location and models for your social media content shoot!

If you don’t feel like doing all of this…

It can be challenging to scout for the right location and setting, such as a summer-inspired shoot by the beach when you don’t have access to the beach; however, we have a solution for that — our summer shoot! If you want summer content for your brand’s socials, without planning a trip or even lifting a finger — good news! You don’t have to, cause we’re in Croatia for the month of July - ready to shoot content for you.

All you have to do is confirm your shoot with us by the 11th of June, send us your products and you'll receive your summer content in early July! That way, you don’t have to be there but you can still get access to a beautiful remote island with minimal tourists and content on stone beaches with some of the clearest waters in Europe. Take a sneak peek at the location below…
