2024 Social Media Predictions

Everything we’re predicting, social media-wise, for the year ahead 🤳

For our last blog of the year, we’re sharing all of our social media 2024 predictions — so you can be prepared for the year ahead. P.S. can you believe it's almost 2024? A lot has changed since we were all stuck at home, suspiciously eyeing the outside world through our windows and spending 99.9% of our time on social media (we’re indirecting ourselves 👀)

Social media is always changing, which is great on one hand because it keeps our jobs interesting, but sometimes it feels like there are 1000 updates to catch up on. Want to stay ahead of the game? We’ve got you covered. Here are our predictions on the upcoming social media trends and how they'll impact digital marketing strategies.

So, what can we expect in 2024? 😏

LONGER VIDEOS

Continued dominance of video content. This year we’ve seen that video content, especially short-form videos, has dominated user feeds across various social media platforms. However, TikTok has recently introduced 30-minute videos to some users, after introducing 10-minute videos a few months ago. It looks like videos are just getting longer, and our prediction is that they will increase in demand.

Our suggestion: Don’t focus solely on the length - marketers should focus on creating more entertaining and engaging video content to capture and retain audience attention. This takes us nicely to our next point…

HIGHER QUALITY CONTENT

Let’s be real, we all love an aesthetic moment (probably why Pinterest is still such a widely used app). With the social media space being more saturated than ever, this means there is also more competition than ever before. Accounts are literally fighting for your attention left, right and centre.

High-quality videos are being pushed both on the TikTok & Instagram feed and it seems the algorithm is currently favouring this - we predict that high-quality content will be increasingly popular in 2024. Don’t get us wrong, user-generated content is still “in” and in our opinion is just at the start of its growth journey, but looking at ways you can make your video quality better is the key. Authenticity will still be important, but coupled with high-quality content, it will be a content win!

Disclaimer: This doesn’t mean everyone needs to be purchasing high-quality filming kits to produce full-production content. There is still merit in using an iPhone camera - just see where you can increase the quality of your videos. Key things to look out for are using good lighting, investing in an iPhone with a higher photo quality and making sure your lens is always clean whilst filming (sounds basic, but it’s an important one!)

ADS THAT “JUST MAKE SENSE”

Last year, we predicted that influencers > celebrities, for brand collaborations, because consumers began to crave more relatability from people they can relate to, versus the unrealistic standards that celebrities and bigger influencers hold.

In 2024, we predict that it’s taking a step further, by having influencers collaborate with brands that “just make sense”, and are aligned with their branding- there’s no better way to put it!

We think (and recommend) brands to look at collaborations that feel natural with influencers (big or small) that have the same vibe and energy as their brand. Influencer marketing is here to stay!

For example, here’s a controversial celebrity (the HRH collection) collaborating with another controversial influencers makeup brand in this (very) organic video.

LESS TRENDS, MORE ORIGINAL CONTENT

Gone are the days where jumping on a trend would be a core part of a social strategy. Trends are becoming less and less popular - both on IG & TikTok! Original content is winning - so it’s so much more important to be a visionary and to be innovative with your content ideas! It’s far more effective to jump on a trend that is super relevant to your niche or humour - but every once in a while.

AI IS HERE TO STAY

Artificial intelligence (AI) will play a more significant role in shaping social media experiences and content recommendations. Platforms like TikTok, and Instagram are expected to integrate more AI tools to enhance user engagement and personalisation (Instagram already has, with Kendall Jenner and other celebrities signing up to be part of Meta's AI experience)

We’re also already seeing AI used more in content creation, specifically sharing of AI generated images in the form on ‘inspo’ or ‘moodboards’. Whether you find it amazing or a little scary, it’s cleat that AI will keep on being a big part in the social media space.

A new AI chatbot that goes by the name Billie uses Kendall Jenner’s face.

@yoursisbillie was created by Meta as part of its new AI experiences, with Billie offering advice to its 236,000 followers. Other celebrities have also confirmed to have signed up.
