All of TikTok’s newest features explained

We’re giving you a full rundown on all the recent updates on TikTok 🤳

A little preview of what to expect:

  • Testing a new sleep reminder feature

  • A dual camera feature for lives (similar to BeReal!)

  • Testing a visual search (hello potential game changer??)

  • An official TikTok font has been fully rolled out

  • New video scrubbing thumbnails

TikTok is testing a sleep reminder feature 😴

Scrolling on TikTok for hours before bed and have no clue what time it is? (no shade, we’re all guilty of it!) Well, TikTok is testing out a feature that could change all of that. It can be hard to switch off from social media, especially as a marketing professional, so if you have leaky boundaries with social media atm this is a great feature!

The sleep reminder feature will be an option that users can set up as an alert when it’s time to go to bed and you’ll also have the option to mute notifications from TikTok during your recommended 7 hours of sleep.

If you tap the three lines in the top right hand corner of your profile, tap ‘settings and privacy’ & scroll down to ‘screen time’ you can find and set up your personalised sleep reminder settings

TikTok has a new “dual camera” feature (think BeReal) for LIVES 📹

Tired of setting up two cameras for your lives? TikTok has a new “dual camera” feature for lives (think be real, but for video). You can toggle between the front and back camera with one side being shown on your whole screen and the other being shown in a small circle. It doesn’t appear to be updated on everyones accounts just yet but we’re excited for this feature to hit for all!

Here user @wildandfreebirdman gives us a little preview into how the feature works and looks. You can toggle between the back and front camera with a tap of the screen!

TikTok Shop is testing a visual search 🔎

As AI continues to seep through into the marketing world TikTok is going the visual route, testing a new tool which will allow users to take a photo and it shows you products similar to your photo using a visual inventory based on the image. It’s currently being tested in select markets outside the U.S and not available to everyone just yet. (hello Google competition?)

The search bar will soon feature a camera icon, where you can take a photo and your search will show you videos featuring the product or similar product. This has not been rolled out worldwide yet and we are still to get it in the UK.

TikTok officially unveiled its very own font, TikTok Sans ⌨︎

Most users have already experienced the switch from the old font over to TikTok Sans, which the company is calling more “simplified and distinguished” in comparison to their old font. As is typical with any design update to a social media platform, users have mixed feelings about its aesthetic. What do you think? Love it or not feeling it?

TikTok Sans has taken over and is featured in all video bios at the bottom of the screen!

TikTok adds video-scrubbing thumbnails to make it easier to find specific parts of videos ➡️

TikTok quietly came out with a new update which makes it easier for users to find a specific part of a longer video. The feature rolled out in January this year but it still is not available for everyone just yet. It seems to currently be available for newer uploads. We’d had the option to fast-forward longer videos but the addition of video scrubbing thumbnails is a game changer.

If you’re following a food or makeup tutorial for example, you can go to a specific part of the video instead of blindly trying to find the part you need…
