2023 Social Media Trends

2023 is (literally) around the corner…

Let’s explore some of the biggest social media trends we’re expecting to see in 2023, so make sure you read & take notes so you’re ahead of the game!

CREATORS OVER CELEBRITIES

Creators will be deemed as more important than celebrities for brands when deciding on who to partner with! Not just any creator, but creators that align with your brand values as well as your product or service. Take a look at Weight Watchers partnering with creator, Nish, from this trending video! They used their budget and chose a creator over a celebrity, which was much more impactful, unique and made more sense than choosing the usual celebrity!

MORE CANDID CONTENT

With BeReal booming in downloads & users in 2022, the social media space is beginning to recognize the need for candid-ness. TikTok introduced its feature TikTok Now, which is a replica of BeReal and Instagram is speculated to be working on their replica of this feature, called ‘Instagram Glimpse’. In 2023, we’re expecting social media platforms to continue developing features demanding for even more authenticity.

MORE COMMERCE HAPPENING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

In 2023, social media will make shopping even more accessible to users, which we’re already seeing a glimpse of with…

  • Snapchat’s partnership with Amazon Fashion

  • Snapchat introducing AR to drive sales during Halloween

  • TikTok soon to be upgrading their shopping tab

  • Pinterest introducing TV Shopping heading up to the holidays

TikTok Shop, which is LIVE, has been a huge success in 2022, for not only driving more sales for brands, but also increasing revenue for TikTok & the TikTok Shop sellers, as well as being a place to find a total bargain for customers! We highly doubt that any platform will be able to top off the success TikTok Shop has seen; however, we suspect that other social platforms have been watching and will bring similar features in 2023!

BRANDS MOVING TO TIKTOK

TikTok has the highest engagement per post than any other social media platform. In the past year, we’ve seen resistance from brands to move to TikTok, as it’s a new style of content, as well as a totally new culture in comparison to what we’re used to (i.e. Instagram). In 2023, TikTok will be the main platform for brands and individuals to create content, not only due to the higher engagement rates, but also due to the increased creativity. Take a look at this IG Trend Report, all of these trends and audios have originated from TikTok! IG Reels is lacking in originality & their stats are showing that.

EVEN MORE AUTHENTICITY

Consumers are always getting smarter and smarter, which means old ways of selling won’t do it anymore. Selling them a dream they know isn’t realistic - doesn’t work anymore. Traditional promotional-type posts can be beneficial with a warm audience, but also, won’t sell as much as the following will, which is; storytelling and humour. Incorporating storytelling in your content is the most effective way to build trust with your audience, as well as incorporating humour in your stories. With trust, comes a stronger relationship and with repetition & consistency, more sales.

LISTENING TO YOUR AUDIENCE

On the topic of increasing authenticity, this also means, listening to your audience! Social media analytics are a great way of doing this; however, this is an objective way to collect data and in order to get a holistic understanding of what your audience needs from you, collect subjective data! You can do this by asking them for their feedback, hanging out in your comment section, looking at your tagged posts & interacting with your customers via comments & DM’s. Listen to what your customers have to say to perfect your content & social positioning.
