How To Stay on Top of Your Video Content Game for Busy Business Owners

Batching video content isn’t working for you? Keep reading to learn what to do instead.

If you’ve been running your business socials for a while now, you might have gotten the advice to batch a month's worth of content in one sitting in order to stay consistent. Since you're still reading this, that advice probably didn't help your content problem! You’re not alone in this, batch creating content might sound like the ideal solution to stay on top of your content game on paper, but in reality, setting aside an entire day to create content isn’t sustainable for most business owners. I want to give you a different take on content creation today by helping you find a way to incorporate content creation into your lifestyle, without sacrificing your days off. Let’s get into it.

CONTENT BACKLOG

Brainstorming content ideas regularly is by far the most important step, you don't want to have to come up with a content idea the moment you decide to press record. Planning is key to making your content creation process feel as smooth as possible. A fantastic habit to pick up is writing down four to seven ideas every single day.  I want you to write out anything that comes to mind, even seemingly bad ideas (there is no such thing, it's all practice baby).

It could take you a while to come up with that many ideas daily at the beginning. This does take practice but with this exercise, you really start to observe your daily life and experiences more, until eventually, you begin to see content in everything, literally.

Pro Tip: If you struggle with channeling unique and original content ideas, our founder Miriam can help you in an in-depth strategy session. She gives you an action plan that will not only help you hit your social media goals one after the other but will also throw the guesswork and the daily question, “what do I post today?” out the window. Read more on this here!

Pro Tip 2: Use our content calendar template to organize your content ideas. You can add the content pillar, the content format, the post date, and even the content itself all in one place! It’s seriously a game changer, we use it for all our clients and they love it.

FILM B ROLL CONTENT

Not only is this the easiest video content to ever be created but it's also a huge trend in the social media realm right now.

What is it? B-Roll content is content that consists of behind-the-scenes footage of your day-to-day life. For example, you filming:

  • Yourself working at your desk.

  • A behind-the-scenes process in your business (i.e. design process).

  • Yourself on a client call.

  • The process of setting up new furniture.

  • Your workout.

It’s technically you documenting your days for content plus the footage doesn't even need to relate to your business every time. What makes this such a game changer for business owners is that you don't always need to actively sit down to film your content, rather you take that footage and add value by overlaying text, redirecting them to your caption, or recording a voiceover.

Here are example videos for you to take inspiration from…

Here’s a B-Roll video example from a service provider/ coach.

Another B-roll video example, but this time from a clothing brand. Yes - this is for product based businesses too!

HABIT STACKING

This one has to be my favorite of all three. If you feel sort of unnatural when batch-creating video content or you can't find the time or place to record ten videos in one sitting, habit stacking is going to be your best friend.

We all have habits that are incorporated into our daily routines. Now ask yourself, what time of your day allows you to squeeze in filming a piece of content or two? Like when:

  • Doing your skincare every morning.

  • Getting ready for your daily walk.

  • Being on your walk.

  • Sitting in your car after dropping off the kids.

  • Doing your makeup before your hop on client calls.

  • Waiting for your lunch to cook.

  • Walking to the gym.

  • Grabbing coffee.

From now on, every day you do this, I want you to pick up your phone, choose a content idea from your content backlog, and film one video. Nothing fancy, just press record and begin talking to the camera as if you were talking to a friend (or every other day, we need breaks too). The easiest way to stick to a new habit is to stack it on top of another. So, let content creation blend into the lifestyle you already have.

Pro Tip: Use this tip to hop on stories too!

RECAP

These are the easiest ways I've found to actually have content creation built into your day-to-day life, without having to make extra time for it. Remember, staying consistent in your content stems from finding a content creation routine that blends into your lifestyle seamlessly. Your lifestyle, not someone else’s. And it doesn’t have to nor should feel hard or complicated.
